Flying With a Reactive or Anxious Dog

Traveling can be stressful for any pet, but for a reactive or anxious dog, it requires a specialized approach to ensure they remain safe and calm throughout the journey.

Crate Acclimation is Everything

The most important step is ensuring your dog views their travel crate as a safe space. Start crate training months before the flight. Feed them in the crate and leave the door open so they associate it with positive experiences.

“Never force a dog into a crate on travel day. It should be their sanctuary, not a punishment.”

Consult Your Vet

Talk to your vet about behavioral conditioning techniques. Note that airlines prohibit sedation for pets flying in cargo because it affects their ability to regulate their body temperature, but natural pheromone sprays can be used.
